The focus of this part of Hans-Hinrich Biesterfeldt’s library is on Arabic literature and adab, the Greek-Arabic philosophical tradition, Islamic theology and the Islamic historiography:
ARABIC LITERATURE AND ADAB (84 titles) is the largest subject. A few examples in this category are: Kitāb al-ʿIqd al-farīd (7 vols.), Nišwār al-muḥāḍara wa-aḫbār al-muḏākara (8 vols.). Al-Baṣāʾir wa-ḏ-ḏaḫāʾir by Tawḥīdī, Histoire de la littérature arabe des origines à la fin du XVe siècle de J.-C. by Blachère is complete 3 vols. Kitāb Sībawayh in Hārūn's edition in all five volumes, including the volume of analytical indexes.
PHILOSOPHY AND GREEK-ARABIC TRADITION (52 titles). Included are the Bibliography of Islamic philosophy by Hans Daiber, Ṭabāʾiʿ al-ḥayawān and Al-Ḫiṭāba, both edited by Badawī, Aristotle's works on animals and on rhetoric in their Arabic versions, Kitāb al-Ḥudūd by Ibn Sīnā in Arabic with a French translation, edited by Goichon.
THEOLOGY AND RELIGIOUS THOUGHT (36 titles), examples are: The Qur'ānic Pagans and Related Matters, The Iranian Reception of Islam and Islam, the Ancient Near East and Varieties of Godlessness, 3 vols of Patricia Crone's collected studies, Roads to paradise, Early Ibāḍī theology: six kalām texts Ibadi texts in Oman from the 3rd/9th century represent the Ibāḍī tradition.
HISTORIOGRAPHY (30 titles): Examples: Al-Ḫabar ʿan al-bašar by al-Maqrīzī with Arabic text and English translation of the part on Persia and its kings. The historical chronicle of Abu ʻAbdallah Mahammad Ibn Ibrahim al-Dukkal. Histoires hafsides by Garnier. Murūǧ aḏ-ḏahab wa-maʿādin al-ǧawhar by al-Masʿūdī and finally At-Tanbīh wa-l-išrāf with four indices.
